Aim
These actions, carried by the City of Antwerp, under their mobility plan 'Smart Ways to Antwerp' actively support companies in increasing their employees' use of active and sustainable mobility options. The city provides tailored mobility scans, access to testing alternative transport modes like e-bikes and water taxis, and facilitates partnerships with mobility providers. Through information sessions, personalised travel planning, and multimodal route planning tools, the city helps companies implement effective strategies to shift commuting habits towards cycling, public transport, and shared mobility solutions.
Outcome
Outcome
The initiative has been remarkable in shifting commuting behaviours. Over 150 employers, covering nearly 73,000 employees, now participate in the program. Bike usage among employees has grown significantly, with over a third of respondents commuting by bike, and long-term car use decreasing steadily from 49% in 2018 to 44% in 2022. The initiative has successfully reduced car-based travel, CO2 emissions, and traffic congestion, while fostering healthier commuting habits and improving overall accessibility for both the port and the city.
